Invitation to our chess family for two design contests:

CONTEST #1: Polk Scholastic Chess Logo Design:

Polk Scholastic Chess is looking for creative artists within its chess family of over 1,000 Polk County residents, for redesigning its logo. All registered "Polk Scholastic Chess" players, their parents, teachers/coaches, their school’s art club and our chess volunteers are welcome to participate. You can take help of your school art club and other resources from community as needed for your design.

Logo Design Requirements/Guidelines: Here are some requirements/guidelines – hopefully this will provide stimulation for the young designer’s creative brain:
 
1. Significance of Polk County (as we are local)
2. Symbolic significance with kids and academics (as we are a "Scholastic" platform)
3. Chess Pieces (e.g. King and Queen to equally represent diversity)
4. Logo Colors to be used: Red, White and Blue (representing American spirit)
5. Usable for website and print media
Our mission and slogan: “Encourage academic growth through the game of chess”.
 
Logo Presentation and Judging:
1. Be creative and do your research about Polk Scholastic Chess - don’t limit your creativity. You can present more than one design concepts. Team work, if needed, is acceptable.

2. Draw or Print your logo design on 8.5 x 11 in. paper (or larger) in color.

3. Ensure there is no copyright violation – do not copy logos/designs from internet. Use your creativity - we trust that we have great talent within our chess family. If we find that you have copied or have violated any copyrights, your entry will be disqualified.

4. Get your design digitized (scanned / digitally saved) on a zip drive. Ensure it is hi-resolution: 300 dpi.

5. Bring your presentation and zip drive with you on 12th January 2019 and display that (our volunteer team will guide you for the placing your entry for the judges to review). Ensure that your name and school name is marked clearly on your entry. NOTE: We do not have color printers and will not be able to print your design for you – you have to bring a color print-out or drawing.

6. Our board members, invited art critics and judges will come over during the day around lunch time (after second game is over) to see your designs. Their score and judgement will be final in determining the winner, and designer name/school name will be announced on our website. Board members will have the final authority to vote and accept the winner entry as the official logo of Polk Scholastic Chess.

7. Winner will get a $100 gift certificate/card. Winner will need to provide the ZIP DRIVE having the high-resolution digital copy (300 dpi) of their logo design in PDF, PSD or vector format to us at the time of collection of prize money.

CONTEST #2: Polk Scholastic Chess Tent/Table Banner Design:
Design and decorate your tent or coach table showing your school spirit at our January 2019 tournament. The judges will be invited to walk around and select two winners for $25 prizes each.
